Learning During the Pandemic

On 21st March 2020, India went into a 21-day lockdown as a means to contain the spread of COVID-19. Listen to the lives of Japanese language learners and educators from different parts of India during the pandemic.

A week prior to the lockdown in March, undergraduate students of the Japanese Department at The English and Foreign Languages University, where I work, all the students staying in hostels had to vacate and go back to their hometowns in various parts of India. Classes resumed the following week, albeit remotely and continued to do so for almost two years, i.e. till the beginning of 2022. Images for instance of their learning environment provided by the interviewee are also available for the listeners to have a wholesome understanding of their journey during the pandemic.

While the learners started the journey of learning remotely, educators had to facilitate synchronous remote learning for their students. Listen to educators from six universities, that offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Japanese, and their learnings during the pandemic.
